Making it out of NYC
Around 2:30 pm we finish packing the truck up. Ugh so many boxes everywhereeeeee. But it all finally gets done and the apartment is completely empty – just the way we came in. I can’t believe that this is the longest we have every stayed an an apt (3yrs) and it has come and gone. Off to a new chapter of our lives…
So Sara bravely says, “I will drive through NYC” if Mike drives the rest of the way to PA”. Deal! We set Mike’s GPS for Etters, PA… but… the GPS doesn’t work. The keyboard seems to be not working…
Luckily Sara has her tablet and we use it to zig zag (literally) our way through NYC.
Now we are out of NYC and in Basking Ridge, NJ for lunch – Panera Bread… mmmm. Our first stop on the trip is to Etters, PA to see Mike’s Aunt Georgette!
Trucking Troubles!!!!
So Mike and Sara call me this morning at around 8:10 and say, “we are here at the budget pickup location, but there is no one here”. I panicly start making all the calls I can. I call the national budget hotline which tell me “sorry, we can’t do anything cause its Easter Sunday and no one is around. Did you confirm with the store directly?” As I am staring at the store’s confirmation e-mail. Once I finally get through to someone they tell me to call customer service in a half hour when they open. By the time I got through to customer service Mike and Sara had already come back and I had a new location to send them to. Just then i got a call from the place they first tried saying that they guy was late because of his train. So back Sara and Mike went to the same place they just came from. WTF MATES!!! So they finally get the truck and come back by 10:30am and we get started finally!
Packing and Clearing Out

Picking the truck up
I, just along for the ride and as a mule for moving the stuff and driving, got all of my ducks lined up in a row last night. I took the taxi to metro north, then got on the subway to Mike and Moni’s apartment.
I arrived a little after 9 pm, and was offered what was left in the fridge-eggs, veggies and cheese. Moni, meanwhile, ate a ton of leftover dumplings. And Mike? Broccoli. Yep. Mmm.
So our reservation to pick up the Budget truck was for 8 am today in Queens. I didn’t want to wake up early, but, yeah, so much for that.
Mike and I went, took the subway and walked…. And walked. Finally, the destination with a locked gate and no one in sight. (Why are these places always in areas that belong in horror kidnapping flicks?) So we waited an hour, called the HQ (no answer), and came upon an “ah ha” moment: it is* Easter Sunday.
Finalizing the Route
It’s been a few months gearing up for this, and in all fairness Moni has been doing so much work for it. Mike and Moni have both been packing up their apartment since January. I went there a few days back and really all that is left is their giant TV and bed. They sold their couch and have everything else in boxes!
So we sat down last week and discussed where we want to go and see. With that said, we are still looking for suggestions as to where to drive to.
Is there anywhere that you’ve wanted to go in the US or that someone who is driving across the United States should aim for? If so, send us a note! Thanks!
